Glamour Spell // The Devil May Care

The vibe for me lately has been to slap on a little eyebrow gel, mascara and maybe some gloss & let my hair be whatever it wants to be. I want to see more of who I am, you know? I want ease & I like that it doesn’t look perfect! I admit it’s taken lots of getting used to as a person who only recently started getting comfortable with what I look like after so many years of heavy foundation & eyeliner. ironically, using a lot of that stuff to look more natural??? a no makeup makeup lol.

Did you know there is a reason that we humans feel so much dissonance between what we see in the mirror and what we see when we look at a photograph of ourselves?

I learned last year that the brain has a sort of “autocorrect” function when you look at yourself in the mirror? It’s true. The longer you look at yourself in the mirror, the more your brain creates an image of itself that isn’t real! It will begin to balance the parts of your face that are not symmetrical.

So it feels incredibly jarring when you see a photo of yourself and you think, wait… is that what I actually look like?! No way!

It’s true. if you’re interested in reading more about this, tap here!

I have been really interested in the way using filters on this app (and so many others) begins to morph the way you see yourself. Suddenly I am not so used to seeing my nose as it *actually is* but a sculpted, smaller, Who-like nose. The corners of my eyes have been pulled up. My skin color lightened & evened out. Suddenly, seeing my pores & wrinkles feels strange.

Now, I love a fun filter as much as the next person so please don’t think this is me saying, NEVER PLAY WITH FILTERS OR GLAMOURS because I don’t believe in that either! It’s more that I’m observing what comes up in me when I continually use these tools as escape rather than elevating myself. Using glamours & modifications in order to bring out more of who I am as opposed to distracting from the truth of who I am.

a counterfeit version of someone else.

Having & using these glamours & filters so others perceive me from the place of Truth and Individuality that I wish others to see as opposed to taking away from (or even, dare I say it, white washing *gasp!!!*) the truth of what exists. I know this wound intimately because it was and is wound of mine too!

And I’d love to discuss the shadow side of Glamour Magick and the ways we begin to warp our sense of reality by clinging to illusions that we cast without a sense of assuredness underneath it. I think one of the pivotal facets of working a Glamour is that we’re working with the energy that already exists within ourselves that we want to amplify! This magic works so beautifully when it is ANCHORED in your sense of self. Your truth & Your integrity.

When we feel lacking inwardly, In my experience, it can create a sort of energetic void that’s like a black hole that pulls in whatever energy is near enough and has enough gravity that it can cling to. If you’re familiar with energy work or indic chakra energy system, we know this as a solar plexus (manipura chakra) imbalance or lost soul piece of the middle world. an injury to the energy body that seeks assurance and validation because it is lacking strength. & the way this often manifests is by way of adopting pieces of other people.

In other words, Glamour Magick without a sense of Integrity & Self to anchor it, becomes a shallow shell of someone else. A facade. A mask. A shell. A projection.

It’s a VERY FINE LINE, my friends. Many of us use glamours because we want to believe in ourselves as much as we believe in these larger than life figures we see projected to us at all angles in the media. We must be very careful to always check in with ourselves, check in with our people, and be in constant inquiry about what our deeper wants are because it will affect the magick we cast.

So, in the spirit of being our real, true, gritty, grimy selves with all of our quirks, messes, asymmetries, and imperfections - I give you a spell that honors this Less is More attitude.

We’re talking model off duty energy or hopefully (we can only hope) aragorn busting through the doors of helm’s deep.

**Note: As with any spell where you’re potentially using fire, please use discretion. Please don’t coat them too heavily in oils, florida water, or crushed herbs. Don’t leave your candles unattended or near other flammable substances. Use fire safe dishes & have an extinguisher nearby.

Hope you all have fun with this one!
xo, Angie
